GenICam

The GenICam standard (Generic Interface for Cameras) is closely connected with GigE Vision. It provides a standardised interface for all types of vision cameras regardless of the interface type. GenICam delivers a consistent programming interface (API) for all compliant cameras.

GenICam has four main functions:

  • A method of configuring the camera
  • Information on how to capture images
  • Providing a user interface
  • Information on data transmission

GenICam aims to deliver true plug-​and-play camera functionality to vision for the first time. Each compliant camera contains an XML file with all the relevant information, such as the resolution, camera control, exposure modes, special features etc.
