Laser

Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation.

A Laser is a generator or amplifier for coherent electro-magnetic waves, particularly in the visible spectral range and in the adjacent infrared and ultraviolet spectral ranges, and even beyond them.

Laser light is perfectly suited for structured illumination (projection of lines, grids or circles on an object) due to its outstanding focussing. A typical application are laser lines enabling the scanning of component geometry even without any grey scale contrast.
