Sensor

Sensors – also called sensing element – are technical components that detect and measure specific physical or chemical properties and transform the measured dimensions into signals that can be further processed.

In machine vision and imaging only optoelectric sensors – usually the sensor types CCD or CMOS – are used. They record optical information and based on this information generate evaluable electric signals.

Common applications for optical sensors are position measurement, speed measurement, angle measurement and distance measurement.

Sensors which dispose of a micro-processor and can therefore take over part of the signal processing are called smart sensors.

Vision Sensor

A turnkey product based on an imaging sensor integrated in a housing together with a processing unit and equipped with a specific application software.

Typically, optics and illumination are already integrated. The application aims at a specific scope, for example, the reading of codes.
